The Breakdown
When working in public relations there is a basic skill set that all public relations professionals have. Despite the chosen field to work in, conveying and maintaining a message between a public and its audience is the main goal of each public relations professional. The majority of public relations specialists have a background in journalism or have some extensive knowledge of creative and technical writing. One of the main functions of public relations is strategically communicating a message to an audience. How the message is communicated to each audience depends on the area of specialization. The different specialization areas of public relations mainly include but are not , government agencies, freelance agencies, corporate and nonprofit. One of the interesting things about each public relations professionals career is they are known for their work and not necessarily being seen by the public eye. The breakdown of each public relations career is different depending on the area of specialization.
My favorite area of public relations is strategic events, and working for freelance agencies. This area of public relations allows for professionals to have the most freedom and get really creative with how they find solutions to problems. Creating strategic events for clients is a strategic way for public relations specialists to show their knowledge of public relations through one event. Often strategic events requires many different aspects of both public relations and marketing combined.

According to an article from PR Daily, public relations is not a career that anyone can handle. Listed under military professionals. firefighters and event coordinators, public relations coordinators are listed as number six on a list of most stressful careers. The article states that public relations is “the most stressful because of tight deadlines and scrutiny in the public eye.” Facts like these are always interesting. Despite figures like these, it goes to show it takes a talented and dedicated person to have a career in public relations.
